I don't believe I have EVER been so clean on the fifth day of a hike! I just finished taking another hedonistic bath in the late morning sunshine.  And I have to say, there's an awful lot to be said for short hair – it washes easily and dries fast.

The weather is clear, blue and hot. However, my Spectacle Lake streak is also still holding – the first night we were here it poured right after dinner and the rain sent us scurrying into our tents. It didn't last long – maybe about 45 minutes.

Yesterday C. and I day-hiked up to Spectacle Point. I've been meaning to do this for quite some time in order to retake all the pictures I lost several years ago on the Cross Cascades hike. I'd taken several shots from this absolutely spectacular viewpoint and was devastated to get home and discovered the film on that one role had torn; all the beautiful pictures were destroyed.

The following time I came back, a tremendous storm hit the area and I spent the entire night bailing water out of the tent. The next morning the dogs and I hiked the 16-miles out to Snoqualmie Pass in snow and rain with no views whatsoever from Spectacle Point. But THIS time, C. and I both snapped away and I have every possible angle of view covered for future posterity.
