The Gear
Just a word of advise from someone who's been there and learned the hard way: never, EVER skimp on your back-country gear in order to save a few bucks. In a normal situation, it can make your trip really miserable. In an emergency situation it really can mean the difference between life and death.
Here's some of the stuff I packed up with me. Most of it was purchased at Early Winters, the rest mostly from REI.

Good gear can make all the difference! Here C&G and I are camped at Gem Lake (near Snoqualmie Pass) in November. We both had our Early Winter Omnipotents.
Never, EVER skimp on your back-country gear!
