The pups investigating something that smells REALLY good.

It must have rained ala Noah’s Arc last night because there were puddles everywhere on the road up to the parking lot. The trail was soddened and the tall rain-soaked foliage immediately drenched me, the pups, and everything we were wearing. The puppies thought it was all great fun. So much so that when we got to this camp one of the very first things they did was run through the pools next to the river. I heard gleeful barking and grunting followed by reed rustling and splashes. Soon, two totally drenched puppies trotted into camp so Mica and I could vicariously share the fun by being the lucky recipients of their synchronized shaking. I could just imagine them plotting it all as they approached the tent. ‘OK, now you take the right side I’ll nail them from the left!’

This is actually a nice little camp, situated just off the trail with a small cold streamlet running down its western border. There’s plenty of room for two tents her, so if C&G and I ever patch up the problems between us, maybe I’ll bring them up here. It’s the third site after crossing the first stream after the switchbacks. Mt. David rises dramatically just across the creek. It still has a number of what must be year-round snow patches on it.

I just heard more splashing. It is now 7:25 PM. Those puppies are NOT getting into the tent tonight until they’re dry!

We had visitors around 6 PM, a father and four kids. They’re camped down at the second site. The kids fell in love with the puppies.
