Finally, I said the hell with it. I was tired and it was getting dark, so I turned back to go camp by the river. I called out Marj’s name a few more times and then, just for the heck of it, shouted out Micki’s name. Micki must have heard me, because Marj answered.

I had never been so happy to see anyone in my life! And Marj had a special treat for me; she had ‘liberated’ a beer from someone else’s stash left cooling in the river. As I greedily sucked it down, I was extremely grateful that she was too classy to comment upon my less-than-impressive route-finding skills for the day.

After eating a little soup, I gratefully sank into my sleeping bag. Despite her better judgement, Poo plopped down next to me. My ankle and feet hurt so badly that I slept very little, even though I was exhausted. I thought Poo probably didn't feel a whole lot better, but when I looked over at her, she was sound asleep.
