1977: Stevens to Snoqualmie ... Again
Page 4: Never Get Cocky in the Cascades.
Having been over this section of the Pacific Crest Trail a couple of years earlier, I knew that the trail climbed via switchbacks up to Lake Ivanhoe and Dutch Miller Gap, so I just started heading up the valley, following Ivanhoe's outlet stream. It's a fairly steep, narrow cleft between the Summit Chief group and Bears Breast Mountain, so I kept above the stream and traversed the eastern slope, following the line of least resistance.
At one point, sitting on some rocks about 500’ above the stream, I looked over at Bear’s Breast and “saw” the trail. Woo-hoo!
