A lovely stroll in the Pasaytan Wilderness

Soda Peak sunset.

7:10 PM. There have been no visitors this evening. And it's been kind of a funny day – totally overcast, but very little rain. It warmed up to a balmy 50° and the wind is out of the south.

I did wash myself up today – at least, my hands, face, and teeth.  But not the hair. It's not warm enough for that.

Micki and I went up the Devil Staircase tonight and took some photos. The cloud cover was somewhere around 8000’, so we were able to see quite a lot.

After that, we walked back down to the lake and then to the hunter’s camp to look again for the abandoned trail. Still no luck. Micki did not find herself any more bacon, either – but she did chase a deer that we startled. I spoke to her very sharply and she contritely followed me back to camp.

I am now preparing my Sweet-And-Sour freeze-dried dinner, to be enjoyed with grape Kool-Aid, followed by piping hot tea. And maybe one of the candy bars the boys left. Oh… I am almost hot and bothered by the culinary prospects of it all.

(Seriously: Mountain House freeze-dried stuff is THE best!)

I'm definitely ready to move on tomorrow. If the weather is like it was today, it will be perfect. If it is like yesterday (which was partly sunny), I won’t believe our good fortune. If it is like Monday (which was rainy, cold and wet), it will be typical.  But we’re going, no matter what.

I've got my camera set up on the tripod and I am ready to go out and snap some more sunset photos.
