Lake Sally Ann

Lake Sally Ann

We finally found the trail at Dishpan Gap. Man, I was about two ridges away from where I was supposed to be! Looking at the maps later, I think I may have been out on Poets Ridge.

We reached Lake Sally Ann and had a quick lunch at about 1 PM or so. I left them there at the lake, blitzing off to make my mileage to Pear Lake, about another 10 miles.

Along the way, I met a woman coming up from Cady Pass. She was a through-hiker coming up from Mexico, the first solo woman PCT hiker I'd seen. We exchanged a few words and then both pressed on to our separate destinations.

This was to be my last night out. My twelth and last night. I pushed on to Park Creek, up to Saddle Gap, and finally over Frozen Finger Gap, and then down to Pear Lake.

It's a nice little lake! I found a level, sheltered campsite and set my tent up. The wind was really beginning to pick up.

Two hikers started to come down the trail, saw me camped and then began to turn back. I saw that one of them was a woman, and went over to tell them that they were welcomed to camp near me if they wanted. They were a couple in their 50s and I told them that there was plenty of room and that I wouldn't mind the company. I then played my trump card and told them there was a fire pit complete with a grill.

They finally did camp near me. It was so nice because they reminded me a lot of Bob and Gerry, a couple nextdoor to the houseboat I used to live on. They told me about how their sons were hikers and asked me questions about my hike and the surrounding area.
